“Children already know that dragons exist. Fairy tales tell children the dragons can be killed.” — G.K. Chesterton
This is the online home for all things J.R. Johnson, including my blog, links to my fiction work and whatever miscellany I feel the urge to post.
I am a social scientist, writer, maker, archer, and unlicensed librarian. I find fantasy and science fiction appealing because I like the idea that there is more to the world than meets the eye, and that the human race has a future.
I grew up in the folded Appalachian hills, where I learned to love Fall, blueberries straight from the bush, and the stream beneath the willows near my house. The fact that Fall is inevitably followed by Winter, that picking berries meant crossing paths with bears, and that the stream was laced with dioxins may also have had some impact on my outlook.
I now live and write in Ottawa, Ontario.
