Another haiku from the archives. I was perhaps… six or seven? Old enough to know the value of friends, and rice.

I shall give thanks twice—

Sharing with an honored friend

My small bowl of rice.

We’re heading into the end of the week and I don’t know about you, but I’m usually looking at my to do lists and wondering where the time has gone. (Also? I’m now convinced that meetings exist primarily to spawn more meetings.)

So, fine, maybe I haven’t accomplished everything I wanted to, but it’s not like I haven’t earned a little time for fun.

You too? Then consider taking a few minutes off to read about why The Phony Physics of Star Wars Are a Blast.

You can also read more about the Science Behind Science Fiction: The Physics of Star Wars from the Connecticut Science Center.

An extra bit of fun: And if you’ve always wondered how quickly you’d react to a lightsaber in the dark, or a TIE fighter arrowing out from behind a canyon wall, maybe you should try testing your Reaction Time. (That big blue bar at the top? Click that:)

Bonkers busy at the moment, and predictably behind. If only I’d started the day with one of these:

I don’t know about you but I have certain authors whose writing just fits. Ilona Andrews is one such writer. (Or two, really, since “she” is a pair.)

I’ve mentioned them before but I’m going to do it again, because they are in the middle of another online story, published in installments.

Here’s the main page: The Inheritance.

Reader, if I could pay for it now and get the whole thing, I would. Instead, I look forward to new installments Mondays and Fridays. Now you can too!

Here’s to moms, those all-too-often-unsung heroines out there doing motherhood every day.

Unsung Heroes of Motherhood by Wendi Aarons and Johanna Gohmann

… Amanda Hill, who took her rage at trying to reenter the workplace as an older mom and being told they “just aren’t hiring women in your stage of life right now” and funneled it into a brightly colored, expletive-laden cross-stitch project.

Happy Mother’s Day!

I had a moment today where I got a funny idea and just started writing. It was ridiculous. It was grammatically incorrect. It was glorious.

Will this turn into a story that I will be happy to share? Maybe, but that’s not my concern right now.

Right now, I’m just putting one word after the other, because when you’re writing for fun, all words are good words. (Other times too.)

Don’t let fear of failure stop you. As long as you can, as often as you can, keep going.

— Buzz Aldrin

I just heard that one of my writer friends is in possession of a shiny new book contract! It’s all still super secret and hush hush, so no details yet, but I think it’s great. (They also read this blog and will know who I’m talking about. Hello!)

They are a fabulous person and a terrific writer. Can’t wait to read the book, and I can’t help but want to celebrate this kind of success… even if for the moment, I have to do it in secret.
